Music and Movement is a 30-minute parent/child class tailored for children aged 0-4 and their parents. This class provides an interactive and joyful introduction to the world of music. The instructor, Dan Hogan, seeks to cultivate a deep love for music while concurrently nurturing cognitive, social, and motor skills crucial for early childhood development. Dan also teaches parents how to continue to foster a love for music at home. Multi instrumentalist and an experienced teacher, Dan incorporates classic and original songs in a way that will be enjoyable for all, including parents who may be tired of the same children songs over and over and just want to enjoy some good live music.

During these classes, young children are encouraged to embark on a playful exploration of rhythm, melody, and musical concepts through activities that are thoughtfully designed for their age group. Activities may include singing songs, clapping their hands, tapping their feet, and experimenting with simple percussion instruments like shakers and tambourines to discover and follow rhythms. A prominent focus on movement allows kids to express themselves through dance and enhance their physical coordination. Basic musical concepts such as high and low pitches, fast and slow tempos, and loud and soft dynamics are introduced in an engaging and accessible manner.

Dan Hogan is a musician and teacher with over a decade of experience working with students of all ages. Whether you are five years old or fifty, Dan’s passion is fostering a love of music in his students, no matter their experience level, personal goals, or instrument of choice. His teaching philosophy is grounded in building personal relationships and engagement by helping his students lead their own personal growth as musicians. Students walk away from their lessons feeling inspired and excited to continue to learn, and he has worked with many students for the entirety of his career, watching them grow from beginning pianists to adult musicians themselves, composing and playing their own songs. Dan lives in Beverly with his wife, one-year-old daughter, and two dogs.
