6 Weeks
Music and Movement
w/ Liz Tauro

Course Description:

Music and Movement is a 30-minute music class tailored for children aged 5 and under, providing an interactive and joyful introduction to the world of music. This program seeks to cultivate a deep love for music while concurrently nurturing crucial cognitive, social, and motor skills crucial for early childhood development.

During these classes, young children are encouraged to embark on a playful exploration of rhythm, melody, and musical concepts through activities that are thoughtfully designed for their age group. Activities may include singing songs, clapping their hands, tapping their feet, and experimenting with simple percussion instruments like shakers and tambourines to discover and follow rhythms. A prominent focus on movement allows kids to express themselves through dance and enhance their physical coordination. Basic musical concepts such as high and low pitches, fast and slow tempos, and loud and soft dynamics are introduced in an engaging and accessible manner.

Beyond imparting musical knowledge, these classes aim to spark children’s creativity and imagination. Activities often revolve around storytelling through music, prompting kids to associate sounds with emotions and narratives. This not only enhances their listening skills but also encourages them to express themselves and cultivate their unique musical ideas. Additionally, Music and Movement fosters a nurturing social environment where children learn the values of cooperation, sharing, and interaction with their peers, facilitating the development of valuable social skills that extend well beyond the realm of music.

In conclusion, Music and Movement is an enriching and joyful experience for young children, setting them on a musical journey that not only builds a foundation for a lifelong love of music but also nurtures fundamental life skills essential for their overall growth and development.

About the Teacher:

Liz Tauro has always had music in her life. From the age of five, she has been involved in theater. She began to take lessons in voice and piano when she was 10 years old from the very talented Adria Smith. During most of her childhood, Liz was in many choirs around Massachusetts. Some of these include the Massachusetts Junior District choir, Bishop Fenwick Select Choir, and the Boston Children’s Theater Show Choir.  Liz has sung the national anthem for the Town of Marblehead’s Memorial Day ceremony for 7 years in a row. She has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Acting with a Minor in Musical Theater from Hofstra University in New York.

Her first experience with teaching was when she was the Student Musical Director for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Marblehead Community Charter Public school. She learned that if someone is enjoying the experience of learning, they will want to learn more. She has applied this to a few other shows that she also helped music direct. Her teaching style revolves around the happiness of the student, and strives to make her learning environment a place where students feel comfortable enough to try. It is essential to know that learning is about making mistakes and not letting those mistakes tear you down.
