Bio
Karissa is a musician who has been surrounded by music from a young age. She grew up singing and playing the piano (as well as the flute, drums and mallets), all throughout her schooling, even continuing with the studies in college. Music is a constant part of her life and one that she loves to share with others.
Karissa graduated from Wheaton College with a double major in Marine Geochemistry and Music as well as a double minor in Theatre and Arabic. She has been teaching voice and piano ever since, as well as music directing a variety of groups in the greater Boston area.
Karissa works with a variety of places, including music directing at a variety of schools, like Oak Middle School, Gloucester High School and Boston Collegiate College School (among others). Karissa also directs a rock choir in the South Shore called Rock Voices. Karissa loves bringing music to everyone and wants to help everyone achieve their goals musically and/or theatrically.
When not teaching voice and piano lessons (or working her other jobs), Karissa spends her time as a Marine Audio Engineer, as well as a Music and Theatre Professor at Lasell University in Newton, MA. She also music directs, conducts and plays for the musicals at Lasell (the shows done in tandem with Regis College) every semester, shows including The Lightning Thief, Addams Family, and Legally Blonde to name a few.
Karissa is also a performer, and performs in the greater Boston and Seacoast NH area on stage (and off) in cabarets, straight plays and musicals. Some of her most notable roles have been: Mrs. Livingston in Bubble Boy (Dive In Productions), Macduff in Macbeth (RGC Theatre), Kala in Tarzan (Keene Lions Club), Reverend Hightower/Others in Bat Boy (Burlington Players), Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar (Dive In Productions), The Mummy in Monstersongs (Franklin Footlight Theatre), Juror #7 in 12 Angry Jurors (Newmarket Millspace), Susie B/Harry/Others in Puffs (Theatre III) and Bottom in Midsummer Night’s Dream (Stratford Festival Stage).
Karissa hopes to bring music to each and every person she teaches. She adapts her teaching style to fit the student, making sure that they have the best learning environment possible. She wants to make sure that students are reaching their personal goals, while still learning and discovering all that music has to offer. Karissa strives to make a safe and positive environment where students feel they can explore, making mistakes along the way, to no judgment.
